CANADA MSB GUIDE
FINTRAC Registration Revoked: Review or Reapply?
A revoked FINTRAC registration requires an immediate factual and procedural review. The public registry status changes, but the correct response depends on why the registration was revoked and whether the underlying business remains eligible.
FINTRAC states that a request for review must be sent within 30 days of the revocation notice. Re-registration may also be possible, but it is not a substitute for understanding and correcting the original issue.
Do not continue presenting the business as currently registered while the public status is revoked.
Read the notice and verify the public status
Save the revocation notice, identify the stated reason and search the exact legal entity in the FINTRAC registry. Confirm whether related operating names or entities are affected.
Freeze outdated website, provider and customer claims until the status and response route are understood.
- Revocation notice and date
- Public registry search
- Exact legal entity
- Affected services and claims
- Internal escalation
Protect the 30-day review period
If the business intends to request a review, calendar the 30-day period immediately and obtain Canadian legal advice where appropriate. The review request should address the stated grounds and the evidence supporting the business's position.
Ordinary compliance support should not be presented as formal legal representation. Keep the project coordinator, Compliance Officer and Canadian counsel roles clear.
- Deadline control
- Grounds for review
- Evidence preservation
- Canadian counsel assessment
- Authorized submission
Decide whether corrective work and re-registration are viable
Re-registration may be appropriate when the business remains eligible and the underlying issue can be corrected. Rebuild the file from current facts rather than resubmitting the same package unchanged.
Review ownership, management, background checks, addresses, services, compliance arrangements and unanswered correspondence before starting a new submission.
- Eligibility re-check
- Current corporate records
- Fresh checks where required
- Corrected business model
- Complete re-registration package
Coordinate commercial consequences
Notify relevant banks, payment providers and counterparties where contracts or law require it. Do not assume that a pending review or reapplication preserves every commercial relationship.
A recovery plan should separate regulatory, legal, provider and customer actions and assign an owner and deadline to each.
- Provider notifications
- Customer communication assessment
- Website status correction
- Operational restrictions
- Recovery workplan
